Summertime is here

And if we filmmakers know our stuff, it's that the breaks during these months is the time to get some major work done! If you're relatively new to deviantART Film, did you know that your fellow deviants have provided
Stock Film which you can utilize in your work? (If you don't, where have you been, man? We've had that last journal up for quite some time!

)
I don't know how many of you have the budget for flyby shots in helicopters or on-location in foreign countries with beautiful backdrops or marketplaces, but for those of us who shoot on shoe-string budgets, there is truly beautiful and amazing stock footage available

Take advantage of the resources around you!

Something else no film ever does without is proper music. There are very stringent rules on what is and is not allowed on deviantART in terms of what you can have in your films. This is mostly for the newbies, but anyone looking for music which is okay can find a large resource of it in faq842:
FAQ #852: Where can I find music for my films?We do keep having issues with films being submitted that have music which is not allowed (we're not talking about content-- this comes down to licensing-- and you guys are not the creator of the pokemon theme song or anything by Lady Gaga, so please don't submit films with songs or melodies that can get your work removed. It sucks when it happens, and you agreed when you got the privs not to do so ;D). We have faqs, links, and all that good stuff on the main page for more info, or you can just ask if you can't find what you're looking for

There's lots of good and cool resources that are perfectly okay to use, so get on it!

Recent Film Upgrades

For those of you who haven't uploaded work in a while or don't follow #
hq (which you
really should if you want to stay up to date and on top of site updates and issues) you might not have heard that deviantART Film now supports 720p and 1080p HD, and there is more control over preview frames

(Yeah we're making this update late. We're filmmakers, wanna make something of it?

)
What's this mean to you?
First off, better quality and more clarity. If you have had issue with how your films have looked in the past, then worry not anymore

If you have previously shot on hi-def or have shied away from it due to worry over content-clarity, this should not be an issue any longer

Secondly, all films that are able to be converted over to HD format will and are currently being processed. Check out your films and see if it's happened to some of your work yet ;D
Also a sought-after control, you can now pick and choose individual frames (instead of pre-chosen time-interval frames) as the previews for your work. For those unfamiliar with why this may be important or why you should care if you did not previously, it is these frames that fellow deviants will see when your work arrives in their inbox. Scrolling over your film gives them a quick idea about what it is about or the storytelling. You should choose frames that optimize the ideas you are trying to get across, and that makes your film look interesting (don't stay with basic black intro frames! Draw in your audience with a tease!)

With everything said and done, get to filming those projects now that school is on a break, gather your friends, hit the editing bay, and let's get some awesome work done!
...for everyone else, stay tuned and ready with the popcorn
